EMERGE and VALAWAI projects organised this event during Biennale in Venice to reflect on the nature of awareness through science, technology and art. It included four activities: An art-science installation, a symposium, the opening of an interactive exhibit, and a hands-on workshop.
The gathering aimed to bring together experts in philosophy, art, AI and robotics, along with experts in science communication and the public to brainstorm how we can communicate complex topics such as awareness in natural and artificial agents through art, play, and narratives. It featured an artwork at the Biennale exploring self-awareness in a fully embodied android robot, a symposium on awareness in AI, the launch of the interactive N-Odes exhibit exploring collective awareness, and a full-day workshop on science communication of awareness.
The gathering was also an opportunity for members of the EIC Pathfinder portfolio "Awareness Inside" to refine the basic concepts of the portfolio and to create networks between projects.
